First Works
I work quite a lot (if I have time) with Photoshop at home. During my three years of post graduate study, my friends and I have been on various road trips. In fact, I have a collection of photographs from those trips that eat up close to 3 GB on my hard drive.
Sometimes, my friends and I just browse through those photos (just to relive them memories). Three years is quite a long time and all sorts of changes are visible in the photographs.
I decided to do something useful with the photos, and told my friends that I'm designing a calendar for 2008. I got overwhelming response in favor of the idea and I set out working on the calendar. I decided my design would have to be unique to match the initial response. And so I browsed the internet looking out for a design and liked one which looked like a studio dark room.
Eight (or nine) weeks later, I finally printed a copy of the calendar. It has come out well, and my friends share the same opinion.
This single project has taught me a lot about why product design is so important. Try pitting an Apple MacBook Pro with any other laptop and the Apple wins on sheer looks. Another example is the Maruti Suzuki Swift- the prime reason it sells so well is its looks. Few would beg to differ otherwise.
Every time I look at the printed version of the calendar, I feel I could have done a better job in a few, unnoticed areas. But I would have to freeze the design at some point to make the calendar a reality.
For viewing pleasure, I am putting up a few samples of my calendar on the blog.
